MSC certification for Icelandic lumpfish has been re-gained for 2026.
In a new assessment by LRQA, it was found that by-catch of sea-birds (mainly Black Guillemot) was less than estimated in previous assessment and that the stock is in better shape. Continued lumpfish catches will therefore not have a negative affect on the bird population and the certificate will be retained.
Further assessments will continue to be made and the stocks closely monitored.
