Iceland and Norway have an agreement that gives Icelandic vessels Cod quota in the Barentsea in exchange for Icelandic Capelin. Of the last Capelin season, which gave a 127.000 MT quota, Norwegian boats caught a total of 55.000 MT or about 45% of the total quota. 2.000 MT went to Faroese and Greenland vessels and only 70.000 MT was caught by Icelandic boats most of which was used for the production of Capelin Roes.
