Triton Iceland

Iceland sets 2026 capelin quota at 43,700 MT.

Iceland has announced a starting quota for the 2026 season. It has been set at 43.7 thousand MT.

Of this total, a part will go to Greenland, Norway and Faroe Islands as part of fishing exchange quota agreement.

It will leave Icelandic boats with about 33 thousand MT to catch.

It is unlikely that this volume will lead to big production of capelin roe.

Another survey will be conducted in January and possibly there could be added volume to the quota if sufficient capelin is found.

Very positive however are the findings of juvenile stock as strong measurements in 2025 suggest a good season in 2027.
